Technology for Milling

Roed­ers strict­ly goes for pre­ci­sion. For this rea­son, the com­pen­sa­tion of the ther­mal and rpm-relat­ed elon­ga­tion of the spin­dle shaft is imple­ment­ed by an exter­nal, tem­per­a­ture-con­trolled hold­er fixed direct­ly to the Z‑axis cast­ing. This hold­er con­tains a sen­sor that mea­sures the dis­place­ment of the spin­dle shaft with no con­tact in nanome­tre range.

The machines can be equipped with tool chang­ers in var­i­ous sizes with up to 199 tools and short changeover times if required. Exten­sions are avail­able for even greater capacities.

On all Roed­ers machines, the mea­sur­ing laser and the cal­i­bra­tion sphere are locat­ed out­side the work­ing area and are thus safe­ly pro­tect­ed from chips, emul­sion or oil.

As an option, a sol­vent-based spray clean­ing process can be used to clean the tools pri­or to mea­sure­ment in the mea­sur­ing laser, in order to achieve high-pre­ci­sion mea­sure­ment results down to the sub-microme­tre range, even after machining.

After machin­ing, work­pieces can be mea­sured with high pre­ci­sion direct­ly in the machine using the 3D probe, and a com­par­i­son between tar­get and actu­al dimen­sions can be car­ried out. This is also pos­si­ble for free-form sur­faces. The work­piece is cleaned before­hand using the cool­ing lubri­cant of the machine. On auto­mat­ed machines, the mea­sure­ment results can be report­ed back to a high­er-lev­el data­base in the com­pa­ny network.

Cool­ing lubri­cants com­mon­ly used in machin­ing, such as emul­sions, oil and min­i­mum quan­ti­ty lubri­ca­tion, are avail­able on Roed­ers machines. The lubri­cants are pre­cise­ly tem­per­a­ture-con­trolled for high-pre­ci­sion machin­ing. A suc­tion sys­tem can be fit­ted for lubri­cants that pro­duce mist or for mate­ri­als that gen­er­ate dust, such as graphite.

The medi­um dis­trib­u­tor from MHT GmbH has proven its advan­tages in numer­ous appli­ca­tions for opti­mum min­i­mum-quan­ti­ty lubri­ca­tion and the blow­ing away of chips. This sys­tem enables achiev­ing high-qual­i­ty work­pieces, often with extend­ed tool life. After machin­ing, the work­piece usu­al­ly is near­ly free of remain­ders of lubri­cant, as the lubri­cant evap­o­rates almost entirely.
