RXU models – large and stable, precise and dynamic

Designing large machines to be rigid, precise and highly dynamic all at once is a particular challenge. The moving masses should not be too large. Due to the greater travel ranges, the lever arms are relatively long and good rigidity requires sufficient profile dimensions. Roeders has solved this challenge with the QUADROGUIDE concept.

The force flow from the tool tip via the Z and Y axes into the machine frame has been optimised through an innovative design, achieving very high rigidity with low masses. 4 guideway rails at the 4 corner edges of the Z‑axis transmit the acceleration and machining forces via 8 guideway carriages to the Y‑axis and from there via further 8 guideway carriages into a solid machine portal structure with high damping.
Direct-drive technology and state-of-the-art control technology give the RXU machines unrivalled dynamics and precision. Spindles up to over 100 Nm torque (S1 operation) with still 22,000 rpm enable a wide range of machining operations. A high roughing performance in hardened or difficult-to-machine materials, combined with top-class surface finish and precision, are achieved in a single set-up.

The rotary-swivel units of the RXU-series 5‑axis machines are extremely stable and robust, featuring large bearings and profiles. Large, powerful and wear-free torque and linear motors in all axes make these machines to true powerhouses. This provides ample reserve capacity even for eccentric drilling or roughing operations and gives the machines a highly dynamic performance. The dual-sided strong support of the C‑axis ensures high accuracy during long machining operations and with varying workpiece weights. Roeders relies on large optical encoders not only in the linear axes but also in the rotary axes, resulting in positioning accuracies of 2 arc seconds. Remaining mechanical errors are minimised using the special Roeders 5‑axis geometry compensation. Naturally, all motors in all axes are temperature-controlled with high precision to prevent thermal displacement. The swivel direction of the A‑axis is perpendicular to the X‑axis movement for dynamic decoupling.
